Current Affairs: What's Going On?

We live in a world that at many times seems to be in a topsy-turvy downward spiral. All one has to do is watch the news, or read an opinion piece in a magazine or newspaper, or view a two-sentence alert on one of the many social media sites to know in part, what is happening in our world/on our planet. What is surprising is that many are still unaware of what is going on around them whether it be on a local, national or international scale.

Many things are occurring at a fast pace in the political sphere, entertainment world, society-at-large, financial sector, national and international spectrum. Some good, some not so good, it is definitely a tumultuous time to be living in. As Charles Dickens once alluded to in his book, 'A Tale of Two Cities': "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way.. (Hell)." This speaks volumes to the times we are seeing currently. It's good to know what is happening in our world on a local, national and international level. It's good to know why things are happening in our world. We see the troubles and turmoils in the Middle East, refugee crisis from Iran affecting North America and Europe, rumours of war with North Korea, Russian meddling in the US and other European elections, we see terrorism at home soil or abroad, we see lies, deception and crass partisanship in media/politics on a mass scale, we see the human tragedy of famine in Yemen and parts of Africa, we see the Rohingya crisis/genocide situation in Myanmar, we see apocalyptic disasters hit the US coastlines or interior lands, Asia and other parts of the world, we also see the

US stock markets (and other exchanges) generally soaring to new heights. What we as believers in Christ must do is pray, stay in His word and be a bright light in this rapidly increasing dark world.

Furthermore and interestingly, the scriptures for almost 2000 years have declared and warned in (2 Timothy 3: 1-5), "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!" Jesus also stated when he was speaking with his disciples in (Matthew 24: 6-7), "And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places." It is very important for us to know the seriousness of the times that we exist in because things in our culture and society are rapidly changing; on the surface some of those changes may be seem beneficial to us as individuals or humanity at large but if truth be told, those changes may be detrimental in a nefarious kind of way.At the end of the day, we as believers must keep Jesus at the forefront of our lives. We must continue to stand on His Word, abide in His presence and be led by His Spirit, because it is He who will guide us through the minefield of our present society and lead us on to victory that He's already prepared. Be informed, ..be blessed!
